Meiji Restoration and Modernization of Japan
The Meiji Restoration, also known as the Meiji Ishin, was a series of events that led to the restoration of the imperial rule of Japan in 1868 under the Meiji Emperor. The Restoration, which the rules of were expressed by the new emperor in the Charter Oath, led to big changes in the political and social structure of Japan. The period spanned from 1868 to 1912 and was responsible for Japan’s development as a modernized nation in the early twentieth century. |
