American Civil War
Also known as War Between the States, or the Civil War by the Americans, was a civil war that went on from 1861 to 1965 in the U.S. after several Southern slave states had declared their separation and formed the Confederate States of America, also known as the Confederacy or the South, and the remaining states were called the Union or the North. The sole reason of the war originated from the tenacious issue of slavery, especially the slavery which extended into the western territories. After four bloody years of combat that left over 600,000 soldiers dead and the most of the infrastructure of the South destroyed, the Confederacy collapsed; restoring national unity and the guaranteed rights to the freed slaves began. |
